Route 66

Saturday, February 4, 2012

We met up with Carol and Don (who arrived last night) this morning and had a great breakfast at Cracker Barrel.

We split up for the afternoon, but got together again for Cruise Night at Old Town.  It was a great show as usual with well over 200 cars in the parade down Main Street.  There were some great cars.

You can see the new Fiat lines in this Fiat Abarth that was built in 1970.

This though was the car of the night for me!

The license plate says it all!

This Vette has done  Route 66 end to end (Chicago to the pier in Santa Monica), 2 1/2 times (broke down in Oklahoma one trip).  Each trip has been a 7000 mile excursion for John (the owner) as he drives it from Florida to Chicago to LA  and then back home to Florida.
He let me take the wheel!

John had some great stories.  Check this out.  Here are a few:

He was telling me that all the stores in Radiator Springs in the movie CARS actually exist somewhere on the highway.  He was impressed when I told him about the FishGuts Brick in the "Standin' on the Corner" parkette in Winslow Arizona.

He got me all worked up with the whole nostalgia thing.  Even said there is a guy that has a Corvette Dealership in Chicago and another in Santa Monica and does rentals!

I think I just added a new one on my my "50 Things To Do Before I Die" list!
Are you listening Bud?
