Savannah to Gatlinburg

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Lynn has been wanting to take me to Mrs Wilke's Boarding House.  It is a small restaurant on the ground floor of a residential building on a side street. So before we left Savannah, we joined the line waiting for it to open at 11:00 am.  It is only open from 11:00 - 2:00.  It was recommended that we wait till Wednesday because the lines wouldn't be as long.   They were right, although the line still went all the way around the corner.   We arrived around 9:30 to ensure we would get 1st seating in order to get driving as soon as possible.

They bring 24 different dishes to the table!  Since we were the first group in, they say grace before eating.

Surprisingly, I tried almost every dish.   It did not disappoint.   When you are finished you take your own dishes to the kitchen.  If you're ever in Savannah this is a must do.

We hit the road and stopped near Orangeburg to get gas and ..... you know...
While in the store, Lynn saw the report on the terrorist attack in Ottawa on CNN.
We put on CBC RADIO 1 on Sirius, but by 12:00 they had returned to regular programming (go figure), so we had to resort to CNN.
What a shock that was.  Our hearts go out to Nathan Cirillo and his family.

We arrived in Gatlinburg before dark and enjoyed the fall colours once again as we drove through part of the National Park to get there.

We got settled at the Mountainloft Resort and look forward to a beautiful day tomorrow.
Here's our unit:
