Jerome

Today we thought that we would visit the old ghost town of Jerome. It was founded in 1898 and is on the side of a mountain! They discovered copper and gold here and had a population of 15,000 in the 1920's! By 1953 the population was below 100 and it was considered a ghost town. Today the population is 500 and its become a very cool, eclectic little village.
You get there on a steep windy road that reminded me a bit of "The Road to the Sun" in Glacier National Park that I visited with Bud in September '07.

This shot is kinda cool if you double click on it.

The town is full of neat little shops. This potter has been here for 12 years. The piece he is holding is the one that we bought. He was very informative and gave us a lot of history on the town. He also told us that they had 8" of snow here last week. It was 68 and sunny today!

This was a store full of nothing but amazing kaleidoscopes!

I bought a new guitar strap that this girl made. I must say that it is very cool buying something from an artisan instead of out of a guitar store with a made in China label!

I wish I had gotten a front shot of this cool old guy, but everytime he went by I was a little too slow with the camera.

This was his cool old bike.

We had lunch at the Mile High diner. It was very cool. The ceiling fans were actually plane propellers! The burgers were awesome.

Another great day in paradise. We have a great week planned.
