Fishin' the Koon

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Well, you can't be less than 2 hours away from Lake W and not make the trek.
We arrived at Hidden Cove Cottages and took Lynn through the cottages with Sandra  for a potential booking next year.
We launched the boat and headed for Otter to catch a few fish and show Lynn where I want my ashes spread (eventually).
Lynn fished most of the day seated, to avoid another disaster like the one at Calabogie earlier this year where she fell and severely bruised her back on the boat.

We started at Nighthawk Point (surprise) and I had 4 fish in the first 6 casts. The biggest being this 14 1/2".

We moved back to the Magic Mile and after a few more fish, Lynn passed me with a 14 3/4"..........GAME ON!!!!

With only the afternoon to show her the highlights we reluctantly left Otter for the lower end of the lake.
On the way we stopped at Karen Gobin's (Merritt's daughter) Secret Spot.  Within a few casts I pulled in this beauty 18 3/4" just short of 4 Lbs.

She's trying to smile, but knows she's in trouble in the Big Tournament!

This Loon peacefully stuck around for awhile.

We then headed to the bottom end of the Lake and stopped in for a nice visit with Merritt and June.

With the sun starting to set, we fished in and around Paintball Island and then moved out to fish another hot spot.   I was showing Lynn the bogs that had risen and was explaining how they rise and that sometimes they're just under the surface when "ZAP", I'm on one!
The first time in 40 years!   My mind is going back to the time I got stuck on a mud flat in the Grand River with the Trompers!
Fortunately the boat was on the bog, but the motor was not, so after about 10 minutes of panic I finally managed to get the boat off.   (Could have used Merritt's Bog Boards.  :)
Back to fishing and we spotted June and her friend Doreen out on June's boat.

A few more fish and it was time to head back.  What a beautiful day.

A day on Weslemkoon restores my soul.
