Pelee Island

Sunday, September 7, 2014

After a hearty breakfast we headed down to the docks to catch the "Jimmaan" Ferry to take is over to Pelee Island where we would continue our biking adventure.

Once the cars were in the hold.........

We secured our bikes against the wall for the trip across Lake Erie.

It was a beautiful day to enjoy the hour and a half voyage.

We disembarked and started our journey around most of the Island.   They offered a Short, Mid and Long bike ride. We chose a modified Mid Ride (longer than the 18 km on the map).

One of our first stops was this huge Inukshuk to add to Bud's "Big Stupid Thing" collection.  The car disembarked with us and gave us a nice AAAWOOOGA as they drove by.

Some of the guys "checked out" the Bra Tree put up in honour of Breast cancer.

After about 6 km we made it to our first scheduled stop at Skudders Restaurant for Perch, Fries and Beer (a reward for all the heavy trekking we had done to get there :)

We headed out and left the prescribed route and headed down this narrow trail to visit the lighthouse on the Island.

The Pelee Island Lighthouse was built in 1833 and was in operation until 1909.  It was restored in 2000 and is very impressive.

We covered 3/4 of the island.   It's a beautiful place and I definitely plan in returning there one day if I am fortunate enough.

We returned to Kingsville and the Jiimaan opened up her bow as she arrived at Port.

After returning to our rooms to freshen up, we made our way to Jack's Gastropub.  The service and food lives up to its reputation.  Probably one of the best burgs I've ever eaten.

We finished the evening off with a hard fought game of "31" which Bag won.   If I remember correctly, we played a game on the Jiimaan on the way back to Kingsville, but for the life of me I can't remember who won :)
Everyone trundled off to bed except Doc and I.  We spent a very pleasant time on the front balcony of our Hotel, trying to figure out what the guy in the apartment across the street was wrapping up in the big cardboard box with a full giant roll of cellophane tape!
Shades of "Rear Window"
