Victoria

Sunday/Monday, April 5/6, 2015

We had a needed down day on Easter.  After a great night's sleep, we  spent the day catching up with Ritchie and Caroline and then were joined by Caroline's nieces,  Meghan & Stephanie.  Great company and a great Easter dinner.

We enjoyed a Skype session with their son Michael (from parts unknown), before retiring for the evening.

Monday.....
What a beautiful city Victoria is!  I have heard it said before, but how true after you see it with your own eyes.

Victoria Harbour.

A number of sea planes at the docks to take you to downtown Vancouver or wherever.

Their Parliament Buildings are very classy.  Notice how green the grass is already!   That was the first thing I noticed when we flew over the Island on Friday.   Beautiful green fields everywhere.

And the flowers and blossoms that are in bloom!!   It is beautiful everywhere you look......

The sounds of bagpipes resonated everywhere.

We walked through the beautiful Empress Hotel.

And had lunch at Vista 18 nearby.  Beautiful views of the Harbour.

We walked back to Ritchie's condo and picked up his car and he took us for another tour, except this time we got out and walked.  Here's Mile "0" of the Trans Canada Highway.  Notice the statue in the background.

This was Terry Fox's destination.  A true Canadian hero.

We crossed the street and went for a hike along Dallas Beach.

Which offered fabulous views.

Lots of giant deadheads. Remember the TV show Beachcombers?

We drove from there to the Lieutenant General's Residence.   Fully accessible to the public.
Ritchie had tea here with the Lieutenant Governor when he was in the Navy.

The front doors.
We didn't knock.

From there we drove to Mount Tholmie which provided an amazing view of Victoria Harbour and surrounding area.

Onto Mount Douglas.   Ritchie is pointing out Mount Tholmie, 4 km away where we had just been.  The pictures do not do these places any justice.  I have so many more that I could post, but it would take too long.

Here's a view looking towards the BC mainland.  In other pics you can see the mountains and islands of the U.S,   This location offered a 360° view for miles and was totally breathtaking.   A mental picture I hope I can retain.

Not sure if this link works, but offers a 360° view from here.  Simply amazing!

Tomorrow it is off to Tofino and places between!   Stay tuned!!
