Happy Birthday!!

Sunday, December 21, 2014

I mentioned to Lynn that I hadn't ever really had a birthday party (except for a couple of friends when I was a kid).  With this one being my mailbox party (65), Lynn went to town!
While my actual birthday was on Monday (22nd), the celebrating actually started on Saturday night as my very special friends the Woods, came down from Stirling and we had our own special time at Gus and Guido's.

As someone commented, every available spot in the condo was covered with decorations or food!   Even the bathrooms!

Here's the fine ladies that were responsible for the majority of the food, Lynn and her sisters, Debbie, Darlene and Allana. Even though there were over 70 guests at the Open House, more than half the food and goodies were left over (evidently a Hughes tradition) which all got taken away for further enjoyment.

Bud and Judy, two of the best siblings you could ever have.

The youngest guest was my sweet little Grand Daughter Maia.

I didn't even make my sister cut the cake!

My good friend and mentor, Merritt Wood.

Stevie Mac and his beautiful wife Christine.

Long time special friends Paul and Jean Kennnedy.

Just some of the wonderful friends, family and neighbors that attended.   It was a very special and memorable day that I will never forget.
And what did I get for my birthday you ask?
I have wanted a Fender Telecaster since I was 15 (50 years ago folks!).   Never in my life did I think I would ever play one never mind own one!!!  My sweetie came through in Aces!

Lynn's brother-in-law Wayne recently did a great job on my instrument rack and the Telly is a great way to finish it off!

I'm very blessed.

December - Part 1

December 1 to December 21, 2014

Well, time to get my Blog back into shape before our great adventure to Hawaii.   We go all the way back to December.   We had just arrived home from Our Branson/Chicago Bus trip and it was time to prep the house for Christmas.  We spent a few days cleaning and filing and finally got the trees and other Christmas paraphernalia (there's lots in this house!!) out and up.
This is Lynn's tree upstairs......

......and my Bear tree downstairs!

Somewhere along the way the kitchen sink got plugged and Lynn showed Mykayla and me how she goes about unplugging it!!

December is a series of get togethers to celebrate the Festive season and this year was kick started on Dec 2 with our annual Silicon Lab Christmas dinner.  The lab was shut down around 1990, but we continue to meet every year.   Some of these friendships go back to the early 70's when I was just a young lad!!!  Great people!

That was followed up with My Financial advisor Brad Jardine's get together at Liuna Station for all his CIC clients on Dec 6.  A great dinner/dance!

We met up with Paul's family on Dec 8 to celebrate Rachel's 7th birthday.

We met up with a bunch of our traveling friends Dec 13 for a dinner at the Chinese Restaurant in Delhi.

And finished the evening with an excellent ABBA Tribute show.

Everybody was in Canada at the same time so FishGuts managed to get together on Dec 15 for a Christmas lunch at Jack Astors.

I left there to meet up with a bunch of my BPS buddies at our old haunting ground, Boston Pizza where we used to meet on Sunday nights after the store closed.   Great to see everyone.

Lynn's grand daughter Neva turned 8 on December 18 and we met up at East Side Marios.

A busy time for sure, but a great time of year.
