Ford GT40

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

I stopped at Gateway Niagara for a coffee today and realized it was Cruise Night. My buddy Tom Packham was there.

This thing drove in........

 A Ford GT40!!!!!

What an awesome vehicle. I remember them from LeMans in the 60's, designed by Carroll Shelby (Shelby Cobra and Shelby Mustang fame).
Ford brought out a limited number again a few years ago. This particular one was 2006.

The console was signed by Carroll Shelby himself!!

We were guessing the value if the car when I google a 2006 to see what they're worth.
What's your guess??

$2,000,000
Oh my God!!!!!

Planes

Sunday, September 1, 2013

We got called today by Lynn's Daughter-in-law Kelly to join their family at the Strand Theatre in Simcoe to see the new Disney movie "Planes".
Lynn's Grandson Sam brought me a special gift that he wrapped himself.

The movie cost $6 and popcorn was half the price it is at the big theaters. Planes is a take off (no pun intended) on the Movie "Cars" and was very enjoyable. It's based on the adventures of Dusty Crophopper.

After the show we enjoyed dinner at the Erie Beach Hotel. I've never been there. If you ever go you need to ask for the celery bread!!

A great way to spend a day!!

John Denver Tribute

Saturday, August 31, 2013

We invited Bud and Mardi to the Walters Family Theatre for dinner and a Tribute to John Denver.
We got there early and has a chance to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of their property.

We joined Lynn's friends, Barb, Linda and Al for dinner.  About halfway through the meal, Barb turned to Mardi and said "You said your name was Mardi ......., I'm Barb.......!!!"
It turns out that Barb and Mardi were best friends at Hagersville High many years ago (we won't say how many :).

The show tonight was outstanding!  Jim Curry not only sounded like John Denver, but he looked like him too!  I found it to often be very emotional for me.
One of the highlights for sure was hearing them do Grandma's Feather Bed.

Another highlight was when they called up Darren Walters to play fiddle with them for Thank God I'm a Country Boy!

It was a great show and resulted in me adding one more stop to my Bucket List.....the John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen, Colorado!

Song Writer's Night

Friday, August 30, 2013

Stopped in at David's Greenhouse today and saw this farmer riding a tractor!

I drive down to Fallsview Casino in the early afternoon and met up with MoJo (Moe and Joanne) to pick up side by side tickets for SongWriter's night tonight.
After work, Lynn and I met up with  MoJo for dinner before the show.

The show was great!  Five Nashville Songwriters playing their hit songs.

After the show we went down to an outside bar for refreshments.

It was a beautiful night with family. :)

Evan and Rachel

Thursday, August 29, 2013

I haven't had a chance to see Evan and Rachel since the beginning of summer, so I was very much looking forward to today.  I got up at 4:30 as I had to be at Paul's by 7:30 to pick them up before he left for work.  We headed to Bobcaygeon and used the drive to catch up on all their vacations and weekend camping and fishing trips.  We started the day with breakfast at the Full Cup Cafe.

Evan told me when I picked him up that he needed to find a job because he wanted to start saving for a boat and motor when he turns 16!  So we stopped at Buckeye Marine to check out small motors.

We then proceeded to Riverside Park to wet a few lines.

Rachel demonstrated her improved casting technique.

Evan wasted little time in landing a nice largemouth.

When we were finished fishing we headed over to Cal and Marcelle's where Evan was very impressed by the truck Cal has been working on for the last 10 years.  It's almost done!

Mark showed up and gave Evan a bunch of remote control boats and motor parts.  Evan was in his glory (so was Mark!).  It was great to see the Rouses again and we had a great visit, but we had to head home because Rachel had her last baseball game of the season.

We met Paul & Andrea at Swiss Chalet before heading to the ball park where Rachel put on quite an exhibition of hitting and throwing!

Great job Rachie!!!
What a great day!

Tillsonburg

Monday, August 26, 2013

Today we headed to Tillsonburg and Stubbie's to look at furniture.

Every time I think of Tillsonburg, I am always reminded of the Stompin' Tom Connors song of the same name!

On the way home, I had to stop at this field that captures where all VW's go when they've expired (these were old ones!)

Guelph RibFest

Sunday, September 25, 2013

We drove to Guelph to watch Lynn's cousin John Hughes (the same one I fish with),

better known as Twang perform with his band Kerosene Creek at the Guelph RibFest.

There were many Rib Vendors to choose from, but we settled for Billy Bones BBQ!!

Meanwhile Lynn headed over to the Bloomin' Onion Vendor to pick up this heart attack on a plate!!!!

Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Pork and a Bloomin' Onion make for a very healthy meal!!!!

We even had enough leftovers for two meals later in the week!

Hank and Patsy

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Sam and Neva slept over Friday night and Saturday morning we took them down to the Brantford Market. What a nice market. Reminds me of a small version of St. Jacobs.

We took them home and went to the Walters Family Theatre at night. It was the same group as last week, but this time they did a Tribute to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline.
What a great show! Possibly the best one I've seen at the Walters so far.
The first half featured Jason Petty as Hank.

A bit of video.

The second half was dedicated to Patsy Cline. Could she ever belt it out!!

Some video of her performance

Another Classic night at the Walters!

Sam

Friday, August 23, 2013

Lynn's Grandson Sam turned 4 earlier this month and we promised him we would take home out shopping for his birthday.
We took him and his older sister Neva (sister Sawyer was at a birthday party/sleepover) to moose Winooski's for dinner.

Lynn bought him a lot of nice clothes. I bought him something more practical, like fishing lures and bobbers!!

We had a fun night.

A Bit of History

Monday, August 19, 2013

We spent a big part of today looking at Retirement homes for Lynn's Dad and Step Mom.
We finished the day off going for a walk and visiting her Majesty's Royal Chapel of the Mohawks,

the oldest church in Canada located on the 6 Nations Reserve.

The body of Pauline Johnson is located here.......

......along with the remains of Mohawk Chief Joseph Brant (of which Brantford is named after (Brant's Ford).

An interesting find.

My Annual Adventure

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

As most of you know, my foray into the idiotic game of golf usually only happens once per year. Today was that day!
Our Property Manager, Brian McKeown, puts on an annual golf tournament for all the directors of the various boards his company Shabri manages.  It is a great day and it has never rained at his tournament in the 18 years of its existence. It is a scramble, or "Best Ball" which makes it very enjoyable for a duffer like me.  You never hit a bad shot twice.
I was fortunate to be paired up this year with Dave Moore who went through the growing pains of our board in those first years. We were joined by a great father and son pair, Harry and Daryl Deline who own a paving company that does work for Brian.

We had a great start with an eagle on the first hole, all shots from Dave.  By the 10th hole we were 7 under par. It usually takes 11 or 12 under par to win this thing, so surprisingly, we were in the hunt. The one outstanding issue was that we had not used one of my drives yet (you must use 3 drives from each player). Dave, sensing defeat being snatched from the jaws of victory offered me a few "tips"!
Well............. My drives straightened out and before you knew it, we had used 3 of my drives!! All the pressure was off for me.

We were joined on the last few holes by Dave's 2 year old son Richer.
He helped line up a few of our putts and was a great caddy.

Unfortunately, we parred the balance of the holes and came in with that same 7 under.
The Gods must have been smiling down on us though as the 7 under stood up and we were victors of the day over 35 other foursomes. I wonder  if brother Bud has ever won something like this??

It's such a simple and pathetic game!!!!!
