Day 5 - Mt. Rushmore & Crazy Horse

Tuesday, May 9, 2017

We spent this morning trying to find some sort of resolution to our ongoing fridge issues.   We spent the morning jockeying between touristy things and being on the phone with Jim, a mobile RV repairman and Tim from the Rental Department back home.  We'll keep you posted as this part of the story develops.
Now for the good stuff.  Our first stop today was Crazy Horse Memorial.  The four heads from Mt. Rushmore would fit in Crazy Horse's head.  It is so hard to appreciate the massive size of this thing.

This is a statue of the finished product in the foreground with the actual head in the background.  This project is so huge that it will not be completed in our lifetime.  I could go on and on about this, but unfortunately don't have the time.  You can find more information here Crazy Horse

Just a few miles down the road is Mt. Rushmore.  Significantly smaller than Crazy Horse, but still impressive and.......finished in our lifetime!!

This is the Ebersole Family from Pennsylvania.  Jeff, Ruth and their 8 kids.  We first met them at the Visitor Center after crossing the Mississippi into Minnesota a few days ago.  We saw them again as we were leaving the Corn Palace and again today at Mt. Rushmore.  We are both heading to Yellowstone, so we suspect we'll cross paths once again.  They are all travelling in an RV similar to ours.  I was so impressed with all their kids.  The parents are obviously doing a great job.

We tried to put as many miles in as possible this afternoon to get as close to Yellowstone as possible.  This definitely BIG SKY Country.  No pictures do it justice.  Absolutely amazing!  We are spending the night in Buffalo, Wyoming (another new State for Lynn).  We have  about 4-5 hours to make up in the morning to get to Yellowstone.  Time for bed!
