Peak 2 Peak 2 Vancouver

Friday, April 10, 2015

We were hoping to do the Peak 2 Peak (Whistler to Blackcomb Mountains) Gondola Ride when we arrived yesterday, but it was already closed when we got here.  It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday and today's forecast was cloudy with rain/snow, so we weren't sure it would happen.
Fortunately the rain held off and it was cloudy but bright.

As you can see in the picture and on the sign most runs are closed this time of year.

We started the 22 minute ride up Whistler to the Peak 2 Peak transfer.

Cool Olympic Rings.

We started the 11 minute ride over to Blackcomb.  This is the longest and highest freespan gondola in the world!

That's a long way down baby!

Got to the other side. There were very brisk winds and cold temps up here....

......and then headed back.

That's the Olympic Luge run.

Much milder temps at the bottom and the rain started as we left.  Perfect timing.
This is Howe Sound near Squamish.

We crossed the Capilano bridge and were greeted by an eagle.  We have seen lots of Eagles on this trip.

We drove to Stanley Park.

......and met Ritchie's daughter (Lynn's niece Shevaun) and her boyfriend Chris at the Stanley Park Tea Room.

Chris was an interesting dude.

When we were in Tofino we bought a small print of "Siwash Rock" by Roy Henry Vickers.

Siwash Rock is at the tip of Stanley Park, so we wanted to go there to get a few pictures..........but alas..........there had been an oil spill in the Harbour and they had the seawall walk to Siwash Rock shut off!!  What are the odds?????
You can see mounted police on the beach at the left and a wildlife rescue team on the right.

The girls on the left were from the local aquarium and looking for any wildlife that had been contaminated with oil.  You can see some of their rescue apparatus in the foreground.  They weren't finding anything that was so covered that they would need cleaning.
The tall tree at the point is where Siwash Rock is located.  Dang it!

This is a memorial to Pauline Johnson a famous native from Six nations.  Lynn's High school was named after her.

The boat on the far left in the background is the culprit of the oil spill.   All the other boats are being held up getting into the harbour.  Somebody's gonna pay!

Is this Hawaii?
Nope, Vancouver!

Next stop, Granville Island Market where there were lots of cool stores.

We took the ferry back to Victoria (actually Sidney).  They had a great buffet onboard.

Lynn and Ritchie spotting Eagles.

Once we arrived we went downstairs to our vehicle in preparation for our departure.

Another memorable day!!!
